Holidays are days set apart to commemorate or celebrate a particular person or event. These holidays commemorate unusual things to say the least. After reading this list, it’s hard to believe these holidays have actually made it onto the calendar.

National Alien Abductions Day (March 20)

This day remarks something straight out of the X-Files. That’s right, Monday, March 20 remarks alien abductions of people, cows, or whatever extraterrestrials from distant galaxies are into abducting.

Blah Blah Blah Day (April 17)

Tired of critiques or suggestions? April 17 is a special day for those who are tired of hearing other people talk non-stop.

Hug an Australian Day (April 26)

Fancy Australians and go for hugs? Then April 26th is the perfect day to satisfy those desires. Not only must one find an Australian, one must hope that his Australian likes receiving hugs — or things might get awkward.

I Forgot Day (July 2)

Shoot! Wasn’t there something I was supposed to do today? Eh, whatever.

Take Your Plants for a Walk Day (July 27)

Ever wish for a companion to go along on walks with? A dog isn’t in the picture and friends are too busy? Then take a plant! They’re calm, obedient, and best of all, don’t need to pick up after them.

Bad Poetry Day (August 18)

There’s quite a lot of poetry in the world. A lot of it is thought-provoking, meaningful, enlightening; and the rest is meh, written by those of us dabbing into the creative writing arts for the first time. On August 18, grab a pen and some paper, and crank out some poetry.

More Herbs Less Salt Day (August 29)

Salt: fantastic for flavoring potato chips and French fries, but too much of the crystalline grains can overpower and ruin a dish, or clog arteries. That’s why August 29 makes an effort to encourage people to employ herbs in their cooking. Herbs are not only a healthier alternative to salt (which can raise blood pressure when too much is consumed), they also provide unique and savory flavors to your favorite dishes.

International Moment of Frustration Day (October 12)

We all get frustrated. Sometimes it’s the people we have to put up with, or sometimes it’s events that seem out of our control, like when someone is running late, they always seem to catch every red light. All of us experience frustration on a daily basis, and it’s days like October 12 that remind us humans that we all go through the same things in life.
